1964 to today
Sixty years of Wildcats.
Twenty individual state titles, five trips to team state and every qualifier, All-American, conference and regional champion the program has on record.
Before the wall
How we got here
-
1964
DeWayne Benedict wrestles 138 for Ron Wunrow and becomes the first Wildcat to reach the state tournament. Twenty-four years later he came back to River Falls as head coach.
-
1971
Paul Cudd, Jr. at 185 and Mike Jenkins at heavyweight both win state ... the program's first two champions, in the same winter.
-
1975-83
Three more champions across Amdahl's fifteen seasons: Doug Branigan, Jim Kassera, Paul Wehking. Six winters between the last two. A wrestling town does not turn out a champion every year.
-
1990
Dave Brandvold takes over and coaches the Wildcats for nineteen seasons, through 2008.

Past the state line
All-Americans.

Not an athletic honor
Academic All-Americans
Awarded for what these wrestlers did in a classroom, not for where they finished on a mat. They are on the honor roll because the program earned them ... and they are counted in no figure on this page, including the All-American count above.

The whole room
The team at state.
Individual titles are one wrestler's day. A WIAA team state appearance takes fourteen weight classes at once, and River Falls has managed it 5 times.

Madison, every year they earned it
State qualifiers.
Every River Falls wrestler on record to reach the WIAA individual state tournament, back to 1964. The twenty champions above are in here too ... a title starts with a qualification, and splitting them into two datasets would make the same twenty men look like two different sets of facts.
