Pre-K/4K – Kindergarten

The focus is on FUNdamental movements, using a games-approach to teach wrestling skills and movement patterns. The number one goal is fun, with secondary goals of athlete retention and sportsmanship. During the season, this age group practices once a week for about 45 minutes. Competitions and tournaments are not encouraged.

  • Schedule: January 8 – March 4, 2024, Mondays from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM

Grades 1-2

FUNdamental movements and basic wrestling positions such as stance, motion, level change, and penetration are taught. Tumbling and agility movements are introduced in a games-approach way. Athletes practice once a week during the youth season for about 45 minutes, and one team competition is available for those interested.

  • Schedule: January 8 – March, 2024, Mondays from 6:45 PM to 7:30 PM

Grades 3-5

Wrestlers practice twice a week during the season, focusing on sport-specific movements and wrestling techniques. Athletes are encouraged to compete in at least one event, but the total match count for the season should not exceed the number of practices attended. The 3rd-5th grade team will have opportunities to participate in two tournaments and two dual meets (not required). River Falls Youth Wrestling will also participate in the Victory Conference with other local clubs, featuring up to four dual meets. Our youth season follows a progression that leads our 3rd-5th graders to participate in the WWF Youth State Qualifier in River Falls.

  • Schedule: December 5, 2023 – March 14, 2024, Tuesdays & (most) Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 7:15 PM

Grades 6-8

Student-athletes in middle school will participate on the River Falls Middle School wrestling team (registration through the school district). Wrestlers in grades 6-8 are welcome to attend any youth practices at any level throughout the 2023-24 season, either to help younger wrestlers or to participate as athletes themselves.
